A couple of Amyisms for your enjoyment...

Most nights, Elsy and I gather with the children to read bible stories with them. Periodically, we use felt figures to tell the stories, and we let the children place them (they love it!!!). On one night, we were telling the story of Daniel in the Lion's Den. When Daniel was thrown into the Lion's Den, I asked the girls if Daniel got eaten by the lions. Both Aubrey and Amy said no. I was proud of them that they remembered. So then I asked them why didn't Daniel get eaten by the lions?

....Amy proudly answered, because the butterfly shut their mouths :)

but it gets even better...

Both Aubrey and Amy have been memorizing the Ten Commandments. When we got to the 10th Commandment, "Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbors," Amy has managed to come up with her own interpretation of this commandment. She states...

....Thou shall not covet by neighbor's house, thou shall not covet by neighbor's LIFE, nor his man, nor his manservant, nor his SOCKS, nor his AX, nor anything that is by neighbors.

Thanksgiving: this year's smoked turkey came out much nicer than last years. Still using Mr. Johnson's applewood, but I was careful this year :)

Can you find the little Indians?

it's finally completed....I''m done....really!!!! Yippe!

I presented my thesis project on Friday, November 18th. My paper and presentation were accepted, and I have finally reached the finish line. Thank you all who have supported me with prayers and encouragement along the way, especially, thank you Elsy, for the high cost you've made to help me achieve this goal! Get ready for the Bar-b-Que!!!

wow...it took all these....

...and a few of these...

...one of these...

...to get one of these...

...whew, what a journey! No more INS applications, expirations, appointments, or missing documents. Not to be mistaken, though...the excitement expressed here does not come near the excitement of having a citizenship in Christ. Thank you to all those who have supported us and helped us along the way. Especially, thank you Rick for all the team work that went into making this a reality. Can you believe that internet version of that trip to Juarez actually worked? Thank you Barbara Hayle (assistant to Representative, Louis Capps) for so much assistance, and turning some impossible situations into smooth transactions. Thank you, Lord, for meeting our need at every step of the process.

Some of you may be interested know what commitment is required in accepting citizenship, as defined by the "Oath of Citizenship."
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. In acknowledgement whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.

The Acts Campout ...the 10 man tent worked great. We're considering making it a permanent dwelling, seeing as how is has a little more seating room than our living room :)

When I put the girls to bed, I often give each of them butterfly and eskimo kisses. Butterfly in spanish is "mariposa." Tonight was quite humorous...while tucking amy in, she asked for a mosca, which means fly in spanish....

Thanksgiving was quiet this year at our house...and for probably a good reason. Over the years, my experience in smoking meats has been an exciting adventure...and this year marks a new climax to such a quest. A mixture of fresh apple wood and oak was used (thanks Dave Johnson). And for the sake of not having to throw away the spices we normally use to coat the turkey, we decided to discard the skin prior to cooking the meat. The results....

Well...this wasn't quite what we had in mind, but if you didn't pay too much attention to the outside, the inside tasted pretty good. Maybe leaving the skin on isn't such a bad idea??? Or maybe when the thermometer reads "really hot," it could be an indication that the fire is really "too" hot. We did have a couple of special friends over...and we had plenty of OTHER food to be thankful for. We hope you had a special thanksgiving...from our family to yours.
